πŸ” Case File #2: When was the last time you asked yourself why?

Hello and Welcome to Behind the Friction, Reader!

Every Friday, I pull back the curtain on something I've noticed while working on my own business... hoping it helps you see yours a little differently too.

This summer has looked very different around here.

Instead of spending my days at my computer, my husband, son and I have decided to join forces to refresh the house. Painting and small repairs of all kinds keep us quite busy!

Yesterday evening, I faced a choice.

I could write today's newsletter after another full day of painting and schedule it before going to bed...

...or ask if I could keep my usual Friday morning for it.

I chose the second option.

Thankfully, my husband said yes.

His only question was:

"Why is it so important to you?"

Especially since, as he pointed out...

"It's not making you "real" money."

Fair question. πŸ˜„

I answered with the first thing that came to mind.

"I don't want to disappear."

It sounded true.

But later, while enjoying the luxury of not writing my newsletter after a long day on the "construction site" (and instead curling up with a good book), I realized that wasn't the whole story.

Then this morning, somewhere between shampoo and conditioner, another question popped into my head.

But why?

Because I don't want to disappear.

Okay...

Why?

Because I want to stay connected.

Why?

Because I love the conversations that sometimes begin with these emails.

Why?

Because those conversations help me see what people are struggling with.

Why?

Because that's how I uncover what wants to be created next.

Interesting...

None of those answers were the one I gave my husband.

Yet they all felt truer.

Sometimes our first answer is just the surface.

The interesting part lives a few layers underneath.

Fun fact...

I started writing this newsletter expecting an uninterrupted morning ahead of me.

It's now after lunch.

Between a paint roller, a husband, a son, and approximately fourteen "quick questions",
I kept saying yes because I didn't want to become the bottleneck that slowed everyone down.

Funny how today's lesson wasn't just in the topic...

It was happening while I was writing it πŸ˜†

Well, maybe it was the Universe asking me:

"Okay then... how important is it really?"

We spend a lot of time asking ourselves what to do next.
And then
how to do it.

Maybe the better question is...

Why does this matter so much to me?

Not the polished answer.
The one underneath.

Today's invitation is simple:
Pick something you've been doing consistently lately.

A project.
A habit.
A business idea.
Something you keep coming back to.

Now ask yourself:

Why is this important to me?

Write your answer.

Then ask yourself...

Why?

Do it again.

You don't have to get to seven layers today.

Just notice where the answers start changing.

Sometimes friction isn't a sign you're doing the wrong thing.
Sometimes it's simply inviting you to uncover the real reason you're still doing it.

Pssst... As a little summer experiment... β˜€οΈ

If you hit Reply, I'll send you the little Why Ladder visual I sketched after this morning's shower. It's a simple one-page guide to help you keep peeling back the layers whenever you feel stuck.

I make printables and editable templates that refuse to sit quietly in a downloads folder. You can use them yourself… or rebrand and sell them as your own. Some spark creativity at home and create little screen-free moments. Others help creators turn simple ideas into products they can actually share with the world. And these days, I also help thoughtful creators spot the hidden friction between effort and results β€” because sometimes a small shift is all it takes to get things moving again!
